Animated Encounters

Animated Encounters is an International Animation Festival which in April this year was held at the Watershed Media Centre in Bristol. The festival showcases the best new work from all over the world with representatives from Aardman, Cartoon Network, Cosgrove Hall, DreamWorks Animation, Hit Entertainment, HP Labs, MESH, nVidia, Studio AKA, Tiger Aspect and the UK Film Council. Active Posters designed by Tijuana were used to promote the the event. These allowed people to download mobile phone “wallpapers” of key festival characters, Animator, Fan, Director and Cameraman. The festival also included a SE3D showcase event in which a group of animations made with HP’s experimental utility rendering service were shown. Active posters, agina by Tijuana were also used to promote this showcase event. The code on the poster allowed a short preview clip of an animation from the Showcase to be downloaded and viewed on the phone. SE3D also ran a competition using Active Poster where people could win an HP digital camera. The code initiated the sending of an SMS message that entered the person into the competition.
